Broken and bankrupt with no place to fall,
Corruption and greed have taken their toll,
Ive looked down some holes that suit me just right,
But I’ve never been willing to cross the line.

Been rocked out of Vegas swindled and switched,
My thumbs on my feet and my Ford in a ditch,
I’ve looked upon mountains too high to climb,
And I’ve never been willing to cross the line.

There’s something to be said about a comedy hit,
Like you’ve laughed out loud when you should’a been sick,
I’ve walked with a crowd with blood in their eyes,
I’ve been too scared and shaky to cross the line.

Now the sun dries the lake and heats up the land,
It’s trumped up for sale and it’s a sellin pretty fast,
It’s a crooked road and it’s just the first mile,
I’d rather go backwards than to cross the line.

I’ve made a few turns that didn’t seem right,
Left a few shadows in the middle of the night,
Crushed by the weight of a thickenin’ tide,
I’ll be needing some help to cross the line.

There are those who are listening and those who don’t care,
Some who have more and some who don’t share,
But with you I’d walk the heavy miles,
Been thinking hard about crossing the line.

So I’ll make what I can and I’ll take what I make,
And I’ll cross the prairies and look out for snakes,
I suppose like you I’ll go with a smile,
And am willing and ready to cross the line.
